Kanes Coach
Stephen Rodi - Head Coach
Stephen has been an avid waterman his entire life. A native San Diegan, growing up in Point Loma, Stephen has spent his life in or on the ocean in one way or another through surfing, sailing, body surfing, open water swimming, SUP surfing, SUP racing, and outrigger canoeing. His love for water sports helped him find the sport of rowing while in college at UC Davis. After competing on the varsity team there for four years, he explored his potential by moving to the East Coast and competing at the next level for three years; attempting to make the US Rowing team in single, double, and quadruple scull divisions. While he did not realize his Olympic dreams, the time he spent with elite coaches and teammates provided him with valuable information to transfer into his passion for outrigger canoe racing. While he is young in the sport of outrigger, having only raced three years with Hanohano after a year with Kai Elua, Stephen loves how the combination of teamwork, hard work, competition, and the ocean experience feed those areas that helped shape his life. His goal as the head coach of the Hanohano men's team is to continue to build on the foundation of depth that Hanohano has created over the past five years under head coach, Ty Aweau, so that the Hanohano Kane are considered the premier program in North America. He believes that each member of the team contributes to this greater goal and he will work hard to nurture this spirit each day.
